my phone's down and out!

Frustrating Situation #1
Person A calls me.
My phone rings and i press the green button which answers the call.
Conversation starts on both phones.
Person A says 'Hello!' a couple of times but he or she's met with NO reply even though i have been talking.
Conclusion: Something's wrong with my audio receiver. (or whatever it is)

Frustrating Situation #2
My phone's charged overnight.
Which would also mean i wake up next morning with a FULLY-CHARGED phone.
BUT NO!
My phone shows a fully charged thingy on the background. (the one with the no. of bars)
But after just one phone call on the same day, the phone runs out of batt.
Which also mean a rude, abrupt ending of the call without a 'bye'.
And the phone call was only like a few mins?
Conclusion: Simple, the battery is corrupted.

i'm using a Nokie E51 by the way.
any phone experts here?
